Greenwich is well known because of the Greenwich meridian which also serves as the beginning of the world’s time zones and because of its maritime history. What most people however miss when they hear the name of the district in South London was also the place of the Royal Palace of Placentia which was sadly lost to history during the 17th century. It was demolished and in its place the Greenwich Hospital was built, which serves the local area nowadays as The Royal Naval College, which was built by no other than the famous architect Sir Christopher Wren
The area also served as a home for the Tudors during their time of rule in British History. Recently in 2005 construction workers stumbled upon the remains of what was believed to be a member of the Tudor family and subsequently through a full excavation in 2006 uncovered the Tudor Chapel and Vestry. The Greenwich area has a rich history with the royal family at one time or another throughout the centuries and many places still attest to the mark this has left upon the district.
Places of interest in the area include the Riverfront, which has a few ships preserved in dry dock like the Cutty Park for example – an old 1869 clipper ship which despite being badly damaged by fire in 2007 has been renovated and open for business again. Another interesting place worth visiting is Greenwich Park, and the Queen’s house with its magnificent spiral staircase which captivates the eye when one looks up into the ceiling.
So whenever you decide to move in the area of Greenwich do remember to reserve yourself a parking spot so you can ease the removals process. The area can be very busy at times during the week so be on the safe side and look into this! Having a place closer to your front door is a great idea; ideally cutting down the time needed and making everything go much faster for you and the team.
